Watercolour and Gouache Painting Work

On my watercolour and gouache painting journey I primarily use photography to capture subjects, usually of landscapes.  I continue with  a series of watercolour and gouache paintings on Arches and other papers.   Recently however,  I have moved from  gouache to pure watercolour in nearly all of the work.

This work depicts various themes with many rural images inspired by the trips I made in Ireland in 2021 and 2023.  While taking the literal photograph as a starting point, this landscape work is often abstract in its composition.   My paintings regularly move from the realism of the photo to the imaginary on the watercolour paper.

Thus the various hues of watercolour and/or gouache mix together and thereby take on a life of their own so to speak.  Aside from the colour mixes thus created, I’m attempting to look for atmosphere in the work.

I have  also tended to  bring more realism to  my watercolour painting work and varying my palette as seen in the image below.

Still learning what is possible with each medium 🙂
